HANDPRINTED! Our new online store is here!

Hello, we have been really busy around here at MCLscreenworks building, compiling, printing and now shipping tees and posters from our new online store called HANDPRINTED! We are very excited about it because we have been producing our own designs for a long time with really no one place to show them all. Now we can!
Most of the designs are produced in-house by Sammy Chong and Heather Salazar but we have plans to include more outside artists as we get rolling on this project.
The one set of tees that are not in-house designs are the HerpTees designs that are all hand drawn by uber-herper Devlin Espeleta.
Here are a few examples of the tees that you will find at the HANDPRINTED! store.
"The Dee Dee"
"The Lady"

"The Joey"
"The Eyes"

The Gits and MCLscreenworks. Handprinted!

The iconic Gits logo.

White plastisol ink on a 156 mesh screen.
A couple yrs ago a good friend and client called and asked if i wanted to get hooked up with his friend Steve in Oakland who had some tees and hoodies that needed printing. Turns out it was Steve Moriarty, drummer of the early 90's Seattle punk band The Gits and he needed merch done for the mail order business which has helped to keep the spirit of lead singer Mia Zapata (August 25, 1965 – July 7, 1993) and The Gits alive and well for new generations of punk rock kids to discover and be inspired by, aside from being very entertained. (Wow, what a sentence. Whos gonna diagram that one for me?)
So, since then, Steve has launched The Gits official website www.thegits.com where you can find everything Gits. I've been busy printing batch after batch of the iconic Gits logo on tees, hoodies, patches and vinyl stickers so far! I am using Union Ink Super White on 156 mesh screens and a 65 durometer squeegie for garments. I use 230 mesh with a hard durometer squeegie and Nazdar 2700 series waterbased ink for stickers. With The Gits on the stereo at close to 10 (but closer to 11), printing these are always way gratifying!
Steve sent over a classic pic, i halftoned it punkrock style, added ZAPATA in old English underneath and we got the back image for the tees and hoodies!
A quick underbase hit, flash, then hit again for a clean result!
Also, I just designed these merch cards to be included with the orders that have handprinted merch outta MCLscreenworks . The sticker version will also be handprinted.
Handprinted merch cards/stickers.
All in all, this is a really cool gig and I am really stoked to be able to be part of The Gits Zapatista movement! VIVA ZAPATA!

TIP #43-Web spray mount and flashing hoodies first.

TIP #43-Web spray mount and flashing hoodies first.

When I screen print on hoodies, I found that web type spray mount on my platten is better than mist. I get a much better hold, especially for the 50/50 hoodies, which makes the prints cleaner.
Mist for tees and web spray mount for hoodies.

Once I load and before hitting the hoodie with the first layer of ink,  I flash it for about 10 seconds or so and let it cool for a few. This pre-flash allows the fibers to shrink in the heat before I put down any ink resulting in better coverage. Both of these tips help keep all subsequent ink hits aligned.

I flash hoodies before hitting with the first layer of ink.

Newest business card...handprinted!

newset up to date version.
Every once in a while i get around to designing and screen printing my new business cards. Along with being able to easily hand out my contact info, they make good examples for potential clients of the multi color poster work i do. And besides, i'm a screen printer,  it's what i do!
original business card circa 2006.
This newest business card is a re-working of the card i am using now. The way i have always designed flyers and posters is the name of the band, time and place are the most important aspects of the flyer and must be very easy to find and read. Thus I want my name and the name of the company to be the very easy to find and read aspects. I got the Sf-Oakland Bay Bridge in there since its the one we used to move over from S.F. to El Cerrito in the east bay a couple of yrs ago. Also, it's my wife and I's favorite bridge.
Then, I have used the name Sammy Chong or Sammy Salazar Chong for almost 20 yrs now but the "Chong" in it has run its coarse. (It was in the early 1990's, playing in rock-n-roll bands in Houston, Texas where I acquired the monikor. Long live Rock-n-Roll!) So now its time retire the Chong and this will just about do it.
current outdated version.

They are gonna be 2 maybe 3 colors. I will do a multi-up of them and then cut. I'm using 230 mesh screens and nazdar 2700 series water-based ink.
